CHURCH HISTORY

It all began on August Quarterly Sunday in 1942 when a small group of members separated from the Mother U.A.M.E. Church, here in this city, and joined its leader, the late Reverend Daniel B. Ennis, for the purpose of becoming an independent church.  Property was purchased at 737 N. Pine Street, here in this city.  This corner property was used as a place of worship and became known as "The Reformed U.A.M.E. Church."  Months later the name was changed to "Calvary Church".  Worship services continued here for two years without incident.  The present land site was purchased, and the former Calvary A.M.E. Zion Church and the St. Daniels A.M.E. Zion Church merged, thus, the Union A.M.E. Zion Church came into existence on October 8, 1964.
